So, the league has really taken off as a fun and competitive ladder this time around. It has been suggested that it should be made permanent and never reset. This is proposed by expert players. On the other hand its part of the appeal that a player who loses a lot of points in a league will be back to 1600 for the next season. This is the important question:

Will keeping the ratings permanently drive away new players?

The obvious solution is to have a lower limit of 1550 for the random ladder, thus not discouraging rookie players completely when they inevitably go towards that range.


The other topic for discussion is the matter of 1v1 vs team games. I see that 1v1 players are far ahead of the rest and thus the points allocation is pretty messed up when a 19k 1v1 player plays with 16+ expert TG players. Normally the ratings are only slightly accurate, but the random league is a far greater test of ability. This leads me to:

Should we create a 1v1 random ladder to go alongside a TG random ladder?

This has a few advantages over just one ladder. Most importantly, I can include maps that are not 8 player in this ladder. It is also possible we could make it a 2-4 player ladder instead, thus allowing classic maps like dome blood.

For example:

CS - 4P Random
CS - 8P Random

My suggestion is to implement a 1500 rating floor, or 1550. Whatever works best. It should help discourage people giving up on playing the ladder if they're still in the learning phase. Maybe once you hit rating floor, 1v1 games will not rate (no clue if it's possible). Or maybe only make 1v1 rate if players are within 100 points of each other? I don't see it as a huge problem yet.

I don't think it's popular enough to merit separate ladders yet. Staff have made serious mistakes in trying to do too much too soon with something that's working. Why don't you set a goal of having 'x' amount of games played per day over a week before you start introducing changes.

I say , keep it like this with a rate limit as you mentioned (1500-1550) would be nice. Other than that nothing should be changed for a while

The random ladder is never going to be overwhelmingly popular though. Its always going to be for the minority of CS players.

I'm just trying to figure out the best way to keep the minority happy.

Add a decay to 1600 rating of 25 points each 7 or 14 days, if not then seasons would be better idea (Summer 2014, Autumn 2014 and so on) that are can be viewed for everyone in forums atleast (since the link gets removed from player profile most of the time).

We could have 3 different map packs rated in the same random ladder.
=V= Random League TG
=V= Random League 2v2
=V= Random League 1v1

I think we should make a topic to discuss all maps suitable for each ladder, it shouldn't just be up to one person who may have prejudices against certain maps.

Well sharp needs to go for sure....I suggested it and it was a stupid idea.

Maps to consider adding:

TTD V4 (its a great map with a lot of strategy and teamwork involved. Doesn't get enough recognition)
Mini CB Classic (if rcb is gonna be on there then mini deserves a spot)
Kings Conquest (an open version of mini cb excal. Harder to camp and team games are usually quicker)
BYO CB (Would probably be better with mirror civs)
TSO (I hosted this as a joke the other day cause I couldn't remember what it was....its actually got an interesting concept for a blood. Might be worth a try)
World Map (the only problem here is that players start in transports at different locations. Could get some pretty funny base locations and gg's though)
Small blood (meh.)
Pool Blood (is this already in the pack?)
Line Wars (Donnie may be gone but his spirit lives on
Hardcore Blood (just for alex)
Art of War
Unique Blood

I would rather not see TD's among the map pack but if others want it that's fine. I agree with all the other maps you listed.
I'm leaning more to the opinion that we should just add as many maps to the random map pack as possible, rather than swapping the maps every month.
Mini CB Store v5 Very fun map that never gets played in TG's anymore
CBX v8 This used to get played a little, could be added to the pack
AOC DOTA 2.02 Something completely different to all the other maps, haven't played it much myself
Chaos Blood v2 People complain about it being slow but TG's are usually over pretty quickly
Deathrow v5 Gwarz is already in there but Drow should be too, they are quite different maps to people who know what they're doing
Desert Blood This could be in the 2v2 map pack
Dome Blood - Hero v3 2v2 map pack
King of Towers Fun map, deserves to be in the pack
Kitchen blood It's something fun and different
Market Blood It's an AoK map but it's easy to play and good for the random pack
Nova Blood Same as above, has been played more in AoC though
Path B H v3 A fun variation of Path Blood that used to the favourite of some Latinos
Phat Blood v2 If this is the version with the messed up hills then use the older version
Small Blood Another AoK map that has been popular in AoK recently (relatively)
Soldier Grave Suitable for the 2v2 map pack
Soldier Store 8P v2 AoC style Soldier Store, if anyone has AoK 8p Soldier Store we should add that too
Soldier Store Accel Suitiable for the 2v2 map pack
Teutonic Blood v2 2v2 map pack
